Hi, I'm Dan! I'm one of the photographers/videographers here at Future Proof and I also write a lot of the blog posts.
Here's a bit of information about me and my photography:
How did you get started in Photography?
When I was a kid I was obsessed with nature, especially birdwatching and I wanted to be a wildlife photographer. After inheriting £300 when I was 10 I went out and spent it all on camera gear and started taking loads of blurry photos of ducks in the park. The rest is history, as they say.
What’s the most challenging food/product to shoot?
Anything super reflective, like chrome. But I do have a large reflector with a hole cut in, which I stick the camera lens through. I can choose the reflections to be white for something polished like chrome, or black to cancel out reflections in glass.
What is a recent project you are particularly proud of?
I recently photographed the Roman Baths in Bath, my home town. The shots will be used for marketing online, as well as leaflets and posters. I had the main Baths to myself for an hour before the public arrived, which was pretty cool. However it was an overcast day and everything looked kind of flat and grey, even with the flaming torches lit. However, using a graduated neutral density filter allowed me to darken the sky and pull enough rich tones out of it to allow me to add some realistic looking colour. I also had the camera on a tripod on a two second timer, which made the water look smooth and also helped me bring out the colours. Overall I was very happy with the shot, although I would have loved some better natural light.
What’s the best thing about working at Future Proof?
The lovely team and fun times! I’m especially looking forward to our Christmas party 🙂
What are your hobbies outside of work?
I make art, write poetry and enjoy music and dancing.
