Working with our subscription client, Cotswolds Distillery, has been a pleasure since day one. The briefs have been exciting, colourful, and adventurous—as well as challenging! In this article, we'll be discussing parts of our workflow to give you an insight into how a project like this can be tackled.

Creating Different Worlds in One Room

One of the main challenges faced has been recreating outdoor setups indoors with artificial light. The Cotswolds themselves have a distinct feel and identity - a wild, idyllic countryside setting. The use of dappled lighting, foliage shadows and natural produce helps us to resonate with that feeling of a sunny, summer afternoon in a garden with friends.

Adjusting the darkness of the shadows can change the feel entirely - it can change the time of day, the luxuriousness of a product and the boldness of the image. What was a blissful sunny afternoon could be changed to a sophisticated summer's evening.

Photographing Glassware & Cocktail Kits

Glassware can certainly be a nightmare to photograph - especially when embossed or engraved. Choosing the right lighting and backgrounds is essential to make sure the edges and text stand out. It's important to capture details of the cocktail kit such as the elegance of the glassware, the pristine barware and the luxury of the box itself. We always polish the glassware and other shiny elements. We also make sure the lighting isn't reflecting off certain parts of the scene too much - but on the contrary, we don't want the lighting to be flat! Lighting from behind is useful to make these elements stand out.
