Behind the Scenes: Bringing Mini Cheddars to Life with Stop Motion

At the studio, we all have our favourites — and Mini Cheddars are definitely up there. So when we were planning a quick internal shoot to test out some new ideas, it felt only right to give this cheesy icon the spotlight.

The result? A playful stop motion animation that combines two things we love: good snacks and great storytelling.

Why We Do Shoots Like This

Small creative projects like this are more than just fun — they give our photographers space to experiment, try new techniques, and think outside the client brief. They’re also a great excuse to connect with brands we admire in a way that feels natural and authentic.

Plus, they remind us that not everything needs to be big-budget to be effective. A simple concept, executed well, can still make a big impact.

The Setup (aka Organised Chaos)

We kept the concept clean — no distractions, just movement and charm. But behind the scenes? Total chaos.

Plinths, wires, makeshift rigs, and multiple hands all working together to move Mini Cheddars one frame at a time. With stop motion, precision is everything. A single knock of the camera can throw off an entire sequence. It’s slow, meticulous work — but incredibly rewarding when it all comes together.

Sharing the Final Reel

Once we wrapped, we edited together a short reel with both the finished animation and some behind-the-scenes clips. We love showing our process, because it gives people a glimpse into how much goes into something that might only last a few seconds.

The response was exactly what we hoped for — positive, playful, and full of appreciation for the craft. While we didn’t hear directly from Mini Cheddars, the love from our followers made our day. And who knows — maybe it sparked a few ideas for our clients, too.
