What Goes Into Photographing a Beauty Campaign

Photographing a beauty campaign is about so much more than simply capturing products — it’s about telling a story and creating a visual world that reflects the brand behind them. This shoot for new beauty brand Chaos Club was a perfect example of how thoughtful planning, collaboration, and creativity come together to produce imagery that feels intentional and full of personality.

Creating the Right Vibe
From the outset, this shoot wasn’t just about showcasing Chaos Club’s beauty products. It was about creating the right vibe for every image. From props, lighting, and colour to composition and styling, every detail played a role in capturing the essence of the brand.
Chaos Club’s bold name naturally invites playful, expressive ideas, and we leaned into that energy while still keeping the visuals cohesive and on-brand.

Aligning on Brand Identity
Before any camera came out, we made sure we were fully aligned on Chaos Club’s identity and creative direction. Having a clear vision from the beginning allowed us to explore bold concepts while staying grounded in what the brand represents.
Working closely with Chaos Club, we developed a clear and considered shot list that balanced creativity with purpose — ensuring the shoot worked seamlessly for both the client and the photographer.

Planning, Props, and Preparation
Next came one of the most enjoyable parts of the process: sourcing props and preparing for the shoot. A box full of peaches, an old-school phone, pink gloves, and all the sprinkles we could find quickly set the tone. With everything ordered and planned ahead of time, we were ready to bring the concept to life.
This stage is crucial — strong preparation allows for creative freedom once the shoot begins.

Shoot Days: From Product to Lifestyle
Thanks to the detailed planning, the shoot itself was anything but chaotic.
Day one focused on product and packaging, shot against bold backgrounds that reflected Chaos Club’s vibrant colour palette. These images were all about impact — clean, striking visuals that showcased the products while still feeling playful.
Day two shifted toward more lifestyle and creative shots, adding movement, personality, and a sense of storytelling to the campaign.

The Value of Client Collaboration
Having the client on set with us made a huge difference. Being able to sign off on setups, make decisions in real time, and receive direct feedback allowed the shoot to flow smoothly. The client knows their brand better than anyone, so their input ensured the imagery stayed true to Chaos Club’s vision.
That open communication also allowed us to push ideas further — and while things may have felt a little chaotic at times, it was exactly the kind of chaos that embodied the brand.

Bringing It All Together
Ultimately, photographing a beauty campaign is about far more than the final images. It’s the planning, collaboration, and creative problem-solving behind the scenes that bring a brand to life in a meaningful way.
This shoot with Chaos Club shows how thoughtful preparation and open communication can result in imagery that feels bold, authentic, and unmistakably on-brand — proving that when creativity is supported by strategy, the results truly speak for themselves.
